In this section I will take a typical house plan that is commonly found in a house plan book and show how to change that same plan to a more ecological design--possibly limiting the plan to just certain exposures (north, south, west, east), changing wall depth and amount of insulation, changing window placement, removing excess space that is unnecessary and unused, making it more adaptable to lifestyle changes, uses healthier materials that are re-useable, and so on. It will explore heat and cooling choices. Basically it will take a typical home plan and show you how you can convert the plan in a way where you will still have your dream home but it will take much less energy to run, upkeep and may cost the same or less to build.
Before I go into converting a single stock plan, I thought I would add another section. If you are interested in a Smart, smaller solar home plan, this may be the page for you. Please check it out!
THE IN-BETWEEN HOUSE
Check back soon for converting a house plan. Please note I converted this particular plan and many others years ago on a Broderbund 3D Software program. I have all of them saved but the program is old and cannot be used on anything newer than Windows XP. I am looking for an old Windows XP computer to use only for these plans. In my last move I also lost the CD for the program and am looking for that as well. Just way too much work to 'redo' so this section will have to wait until I get the XP computer and program up and running.
